Jayshree Bajoria is Associate Director of the Asia Division at Human Rights Watch, where her research covers digital rights in South Asia, freedom of expression and assembly, discrimination based on caste and religion, police reforms, and sexual violence. Before HRW she was Deputy Editor at CFR.org (Council on Foreign Relations), winning a News and Documentary Emmy and two Overseas Press Club awards; she holds an MA in International Affairs from Columbia University.

Her most directly AI-adjacent work is the 2023 joint report with the Internet Freedom Foundation, "No Internet Means No Work, No Pay, No Food", written under her lead authorship, which documents how India's internet-dependent and biometrically-authenticated welfare programmes — NREGA, the Public Distribution System, Aadhaar authentication — convert internet shutdowns into denials of constitutional and socio-economic rights for welfare-dependent communities.
